Apulia Castel del Monte

CASTEL DEL MONTE

Among the many wonders of Puglia worth going to visit the beautiful and enchanting castle built by Frederick II, CASTEL DEL MONTE. The whole building is structured on a layer octagonal, and each side has a tower in turn octagonal. Probably Frederick II, in wanting this construction was inspired to other similar buildings that he had a way to see in the sixth crusade. The date of his building probably dates to 1240.

The castle is located in the Territory of Andria, in Puglia, on a hilltop surrounded by olive trees and away from population centres. The perfection of geometric shapes returning always to number eight, have always fed legends and mysteries on one of the most fascinating ancient testimonies of Puglia.
